A recent eSchool News article, “FY11 Budget Plan Folds Ed Tech into New Program,” examines education funding in President Obama’s proposed 2011 budget.  As the article explains, the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) program ‘would be consolidated with several other grant programs into a new initiative called Effective Teaching and Learning for a Complete Education.’

The new initiative would focus on:

  • Literacy
  • STEM (science, technology engineering, math)
  • Well-Rounded Education (arts, foreign languages, civics and government, history, geography, economics, financial literacy)

With a focus on technology integration into instruction and using technology for overall education improvements, most of the money will be awarded through grants.  Read this overview article (available below) to learn the dollar figures proposed and the funding changes that would evolve.
